CLTS New Members 2025
The Centre for Law, Technology and Society is delighted to welcome Dr. Douglas Sarro and Prof. Vanessa Gruben as Faculty members, as well as Dr. Tesh W. Dagne and Dr. Emily Laidlaw as Associate members.

Our community is expanding by welcoming two new professors as Faculty members:   

  • Dr. Douglas Sarro 

    Dr. Sarro is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, and a Faculty member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society. His research focuses on corporate law, securities regulation, and the intersections of innovation, law, and politics. A former clerk at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, corporate lawyer in New York, and senior advisor at the Ontario Securities Commission, he now also serves as Academic Director of the 电车无码 Startup Law Clinic. 

  • Prof. Vanessa Gruben 

    Prof. Vanessa Gruben is a Full Professor within the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section at the University of Ottawa and the director of the Centre for Health Law Policy and Ethics. A recognized expert in Canadian health law and policy, her scholarship probes some of the most difficult contemporary legal and ethical issues related to health care. Specifically, her research explores the law and ethics regarding assisted reproduction, harm reduction, organ donation and transplantation, health care professional self-regulation as well as artificial intelligence. 

The Centre is also excited to welcome two new Associate Members

  • Dr. Teshager W Dagne 

    Dr. Dagne is an Associate Member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society and an Associate Professor at York University鈥檚 School of Public Policy and Administration, where he holds the Ontario Research Chair in Governing Artificial Intelligence. His research focuses on intellectual property law, innovation policy, and the multi-dimensional governance of AI, with particular attention to impacts on Indigenous Peoples and marginalized communities in the Global South. 

  • Dr. Emily Laidlaw 

    Dr. Laidlaw is an Associate Member of the University of Ottawa Centre for Law, Technology and Society. She is also the Canada Research Chair in Cybersecurity Law and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. Her research sits at the intersection of technology regulation, human rights, and corporate governance, with a particular focus on platform regulation and cybersecurity.
