The Gordon F. Henderson Postdoctoral Fellowship is offered to a researcher with a promising and innovative research project which falls within the mandate of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) at the University of Ottawa.

Our 2025-2026 Postdoctoral Fellow

Ratana brings a rich academic and professional background to HRREC.

Her research interests span transnational regulation, business and human rights, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), transitional justice, and law and religion. At HRREC, Ratana will investigate the social and environmental impacts of Canadian mining operations in Southeast Asia. Guided by Professor Penelope Simons, her project will explore how Canadian companies engage with diverse stakeholders and how legal pluralism can inform more effective regulatory frameworks across host and home states.

Her commitment to interdisciplinary research, fieldwork, and collaboration with multi-stakeholders鈥攊ncluding government officials, civil society, and marginalized communities鈥攎akes her a valuable addition to HRREC鈥檚 vibrant research community.

Our 2024-2025 Postdoctoral Fellow

Jane joins us with an impressive background in law and policy, with over 18 years of global experience in legal research, education, and advocacy across five continents. Before joining HRREC, she was a distinguished Associate Professor of Law at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) and a Visiting Scholar at NIALS' partner hub, the Open AIR Network at the University of Ottawa. Her research interests primarily revolve around food and agricultural law, governance of Big Data and AI in the agricultural sector, natural resource development, human rights, gender and development. She is committed to integrating gender perspectives and racial justice into her work, employing socio-legal methodologies to produce evidence-based insights.

Her contributions extend beyond research; she is a member of the AfCFTA Advisory Council, influencing policy and governance.

During her fellowship at HRREC, Jane will investigate the unique experiences of migrant women farmworkers and how these impact their mental health, to inform mental health policies for Canadian farmers. She will collaborate closely with HRREC academic member, Professor Delphine Nakache.
