Viviana Fernandez, Amy Kapit (SAR) and Salvador Herencia
On April 16鈥17, HRREC Associate Director, Viviana Fernandez, and member Salvador Herencia participated in the Chaire Colibex鈥檚 conference in Montreal. The event gathered scholars and practitioners to explore pressing issues related to freedom of expression and academic freedom in a global context.

Several points of interest emerged during the conference that may inform future collaborations for the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC), Scholars at Risk (SAR) 电车无码, and the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CAFA). Professor Maryse Potvin of the Universit茅 du Qu茅bec 脿 Montr茅al, one of the leads of the Chaire under the academic freedom and freedom of speech axis, presented the group鈥檚 work. Viviana and Salvador introduced SAR 电车无码 and CAFA鈥檚 initiatives, opening the door for potential collaboration. Since much of the Chaire鈥檚 research is conducted in French and connected to institutions in France, Belgium, Switzerland and other francophone countries, this represents a promising opportunity for HRREC as a bilingual institution.

The conference also featured Professor Emeritus Dani猫le Joly of the University of Warwick, who serves on the board of the Global Observatory on Academic Freedom. The Observatory鈥攁n initiative that originated at Central European University and is transitioning to King鈥檚 College London鈥攈as previously organized blogs, essay competitions, and other initiatives. HRREC is now in contact with Professor Matei to follow developments as the Observatory resumes operations. The team also connected with francophone professors and graduate students in Belgium who collaborate with the Observatory.

The conference reinforced the importance of transnational collaboration and highlighted opportunities for HRREC, SAR 电车无码, and CAFA to engage with francophone and global partners in advancing academic freedom.
