Dr. Peter Liu, scientist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and co-scientific director of the Brain-Heart Interconnectome, has been elected as a Fellow by the Royal Society of Canada – the country’s highest academic honour.

This prestigious recognition highlights significant contributions to medicine, which include his work on heart failure, cardiac inflammation, and the cardiovascular impacts of COVID-19. As one of the scientific directors of the Brain-Heart Interconnectome (BHI), he is also advancing the understanding of the links between the brain and the heart, shaping how brain and heart conditions are detected, treated, and prevented. Dr. Liu’s election to the reflects not only his global impact on cardiovascular research, but also his long-standing leadership with the University of Ottawa and his pivotal role in making Canada a global leader in cardiovascular research.
