FWP Seminar Series

Self-Compassion: Your Untapped Superpower

Date:
Tuesday, September 23, 2025

Time:
12:00 鈥 1:00

Location:
Zoom

The Faculty Wellness Program is pleased to welcome Dr. Jennifer Baxter, Associate Local Medical Director - Sechelt, Family Physician & UBC Clinical Instructor of the Department of Emergency Medicine, who will present their seminar 鈥淪elf-Compassion: Your Untapped Superpower鈥.

This seminar will present that discovering and embracing self-compassion has been the most transformative component of my own wellness journey, with profound impacts both personally and professionally.

Grounded in the teachings of Kristin Neff and Chris Germer, we will blend the science and foundational elements of Mindful Self-Compassion with brief experiential practices that demonstrate the power of self-compassion in transforming how we interact with ourselves, our colleagues, our patients, and our loved ones.  We will learn together what self-compassion is and isn鈥檛, dispel common myths surrounding self-compassion, and learn how to harness both its tender and fierce components in practice. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of self-compassion as a resource for themselves personally, as well as an introduction to further resources available for themselves and their colleagues.

  1. Describe the 3 components of self-compassion;
  2. Identify and dispel common myths about self-compassion;
  3. Identify an area of one's life (personal or professional) that would benefit from greater self-compassion, and have one tangible action to commit to taking in the next week.
