Volunteering 鈥 Homecoming 2025 (October 3鈥5)

Live an unforgettable experience while helping your community shine! Every fall, the University of Ottawa celebrates Homecoming, a weekend to relive memories, strengthen ties and create new connections. From October 3 to 5, 2025, students, alumni, staff, families and the public will gather for a variety of exciting activities.
As a volunteer, you will play an essential role in making Homecoming 2025 a success by providing assistance to faculty activities, the STEAM Family Fair, the pop-up shop, the Indigenous Perspectives Campus Walk, the Annual General Assembly, and helping out at special events, such as Afternoon Tea and Nostalgic Night.

Sep 30 鈥 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Memorial Cloth
Community partner: National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation
Be part of a historic and meaningful moment. On September 30, 2025, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be commemorated with a memorial cloth to honour the over 4,400 children who did not return from residential schools. This sacred cloth will be featured during the APTN live broadcast on Parliament Hill.
As a volunteer, you will help carry the memorial cloth or assist in organizing participants and ensuring that their pathway remains clear. Volunteers will attend a morning rehearsal at 9:30 a.m., with a possible second rehearsal around noon. The live broadcast begins at 3 p.m., with volunteers required on site at 2:30 p.m. Survivors, Elders, and community members will have priority in terms of who will carry the cloth.

Math/Reading Volunteer Mentor
Community partner: Learning Buddies Network
Make a lasting difference in a child鈥檚 life! As a mentor, you will work directly with one child to support their learning in math or reading, fostering confidence, academic skills and a positive attitude toward learning.
Volunteers complete training and orientation, prepare and use lesson materials, mentor their buddy, track progress, attend meetings and may assist with volunteer recruitment. This role develops leadership, communication and organizational skills, while offering references, university application support and valuable career-building experience.
Requirements: completion of mandatory training, criminal record check, and location in Canada or the continental US.

Workshop Host 鈥 Chinese Language and Culture
Community partner: 电车无码 Faculty of Arts, Chinese Program
Share your passion and inspire curiosity! The Chinese program at 电车无码 is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to host workshops that introduce students to Chinese language and culture. Engage participants through activities like everyday Mandarin, calligraphy, cultural games and traditional customs.
Volunteers create a welcoming and inclusive environment, collaborate with fellow organizers and help spark intercultural learning. Workshops run from Week 2 to Week 11 of each term, last 60 to 90 minutes, and volunteer scheduling is flexible.

Social Media Street Team Volunteer

Amplify your creativity and make a difference! Join the Social Media Street Team to develop engaging content across TikTok, Instagram, Canva, and CapCut, while helping to promote meaningful initiatives.
As a volunteer, you will create graphics and videos, capture and edit photos, and contribute to building a vibrant online presence. The work is flexible鈥攜ou can work remotely, on campus, or in the community, and you鈥檒l gain exclusive access to events and behind-the-scenes experiences.

Multisport Program Volunteer 鈥 Autism Moves
Community partner: Entertainment Group (OSEG Foundation)
Make a difference through sports! Autism Moves provides a safe, fun environment in which youth with autism can explore new sports. Volunteers are paired 1:1 with an athlete and encourage participation, model skills and support their development.
Sessions take place Sunday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the RA Centre. Volunteers must submit to a police record check (Level 3 Vulnerable Sector) but the fee will be waived.

Volunteer Driver
Community Partner: Children鈥檚 Aid Society of Ottawa (CAS)
Drive change and support children and youth in your community! Volunteer drivers transport children safely to and from CAS programs and appointments, ensuring a caring and respectful environment throughout each journey.
Volunteers coordinate schedules, follow safety protocols, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively with CAS staff, caregivers, and other professionals. Mileage reimbursement and references are provided.
