In exceptional circumstances, a student could be authorized to complete a placement in their workplace. There must then be a clear understanding with the organization hosting the student that, for the duration of the placement, the student鈥檚 placement responsibilities take priority over the student鈥檚 tasks and responsibilities as an employee.
The following criteria apply to all such workplace field placements:
- Students must hold positions or perform duties different from their regular positions or duties as employees.
- The placement must be supervised by someone other than the person who normally supervises the student鈥檚 regular work.
- Placement conditions must be clearly established with the field placement co-ordinator and an employer representative prior to the placement starting, and an agreement to this effect must be appended to the learning contract.
- Clinical training in social work includes a requirement for critical reflection and questioning on the part of students. This requirement must be clearly stated in the learning contract, to avoid potential misunderstandings with the hosting organization.
