Public and International Affairs

The two-year MA in Public and International Affairs provides students with a superb education to pursue or advance a career as a policy professional in government, international organizations, non-governmental agencies, journalism, think tanks, business, or politics. The first year provides a grounding in key subjects, followed by elective courses allowing students to specialize in Canadian or international policy and the opportunity to get hands-on experience though internships or co-op placements. Located in the heart of Canada鈥檚 capital with ready access to leading policy professionals and national institutions, there is no better place in Canada to complete a policy Master鈥檚.

Environmental Sustainability

The goal of this interdisciplinary program is to educate new leaders and professionals able to develop, analyze and effectively evaluate public policies and institutions addressing the multiple challenges associated with the transition to sustainability. You will learn to look at environmental problems from the perspective of various disciplines, such as science, law, economics and public policy, all of which are critical to the development, implementation and evaluation of sustainable solutions.

Security and Defence Studies

The one-year Master of Arts in Security and Defence Studies (MASD) is a course-based program that integrates a security-focused curriculum with a liberal arts core. This interdisciplinary and bilingual (French and English), practice-oriented degree offers students a comprehensive approach to defence and security.

Students will emerge from this multi-faceted degree with an advanced holistic understanding of contemporary issues pertaining to society鈥檚 biggest security challenges, as well as with the analytical and practical skills needed to find solutions to the emerging and enduring dilemmas they pose 鈥 preparing them for successful careers in the field.

Teaching and research assistantships

A month before the start of the semester, the Operations Coordinator or the Academic Assistant will inform students of the posting dates for teaching assistantships. Students must consult the postings on the University of Ottawa Human Resources' website. Postings will be up for 10 working days. The research assistantships positions are posted at any time on the University of Ottawa Human Resources' website.

Please note that students who receive an admission's scholarship must complete an electronic application since they are guaranteed a TA or RA position by their unit. We assume that scholarship holders who do not submit an electronic application for a Teaching assistantship are declining any position for that semester.
