Andr茅 Pratte was until recently Principal at Navigator, a Canadian public affairs firm. In 2016, he was appointed to the Senate of Canada as an independent Senator. Disappointed by the partisanship that still dominated the Senate, he resigned from this position in 2019. Prior to his Senate appointment, Andr茅 was a journalist for nearly 40 years. Most of his career, he worked for La Presse, Canada鈥檚 foremost French-language newspaper. From 2001 to 2015, he was the paper鈥檚 Chief Editorial Writer and was part of the management team. Andr茅 wrote several books on history, the media and politics, including a biography of Wilfrid Laurier. He has spent years reflecting on issues such as crisis management, the media鈥檚 role in society, the social license to operate, businesses鈥 purpose, economic development, the exploitation of Canada鈥檚 immense energy resources, and climate change. Andr茅 sits on the boards of The Lighthouse 鈥 Children and Families and of the Paul G茅rin-Lajoie Foundation. He holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in political science from the Universit茅 de Montr茅al and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
