The inaugural lecture of the Shirley Greenberg Annual Lecture in Women鈥檚 Studies took place as part of the official launching of the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies on November 3, 1999. Established thanks to a generous donation from the Minto Foundation Development Funds, each year the conference showcases a distinguished speaker who played a significant role in the promotion of women. In keeping with the principle of alternating the language of presentation, the Shirley Greenberg Annual Lecture is given in one or the other of Canada's official languages.
