Alum Isabel Blanchard, LLB ’03, LLL ‘04, appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice

The Ontario government is pleased to announce the appointment of Justice Isabel Blanchard to the Ontario Court of Justice. Chief Justice Sharon Nicklas has assigned Justice Blanchard to Cornwall.

Justice Isabel Blanchard was called to the Ontario bar in 2005. In 2006, she was legal counsel in the Cabinet Confidences area of the Privy Council Office in Ottawa, where she gained experience in the field of access to information. She joined the Canadian Department of Justice as legal counsel in 2007, providing strategic legal advice to Treasury Board Secretariat on federal government policies, regulations and program expenditure proposals. In 2010, she joined the Cornwall Crown Attorney’s Office as an assistant Crown attorney, prosecuting a wide range of cases in both the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice. Justice Blanchard was often the only officially designated bilingual assistant Crown attorney in Cornwall.

Justice Blanchard is an active member of her community. Since 2020, she has volunteered with Rachel’s Kids, a charitable organization that raises money for children with terminal illnesses and children with disabilities. She has been director of the board at the Cornwall Community Hospital for the past four years. She also volunteered with the Cornwall Triathlon, the Hawkesbury Hawks hockey team and the board of directors of the Caisse Populaire Trillium Inc.
