“The term “antifa” is vague enough to allow for large-scale repression of any “anti-Trump” social movement. We already have a glimpse of the extent of the Trumpist approach with the pressure exerted on ABC, through the Federal Communications Commission, to take Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show off the air. There is only one appropriate stance in these circumstances, and that is to promote the easing of social tensions in the United States, as well as here in Canada. We must remember the importance of non-violence in political conflict in a democracy. This does not mean that we should stop criticizing the Trump administration's actions and its divisive rhetoric, which is fanning the flames of these tensions. As the saying goes, “the pen is mightier than the sword.””
