To have access to the sports facilities, you must be a member of Recreation and Varsity Sports. You are automatically a member of Recreation and Varsity Sports if: 

• You are a registered student at the University of Ottawa for the current semester and your registration is in good standing.
• You are a regular support staff member, a teaching member contributing to social benefits or a retiree from the University of Ottawa.
• You purchase a Recreation and Varsity Sports membership and your account is in good standing. 

Those aged 15 and under must be accompanied into the facility and change rooms by a responsible individual aged 16 and over. 

Despite all efforts to publish accurate information, there is a possibility that some errors may have been overlooked. In cases such as these, corrections will be posted on the Recreation and Varsity Sports website in a timely manner.

For activity cancellations at Montpetit Hall, call 613-562-5800 ext. 4327 during regular hours of operation or go to the client services desk. 

For cancellation of sports at the Minto Sports Complex, call 613-562-5789 during regular hours of operation or go to the client services desk. 

Recreation and Varsity Sports reserves the right to adjust schedules as required. Late cancellations are posted at the entrance of the room in question. 

Read the Swimming Admission Policy 

Users of our facilities must ensure they are fit to participate in physical activities. Those with a condition affecting their ability to participate must take appropriate safety precautions for their own safety. Any person with a serious medical condition should be accompanied by an adult knowledgeable of their condition and responsible for their direct supervision. 

Any person using another person's card, or a forged or altered card, is subject to the sanctions of the University regulations on fraud and will lose their membership privileges without refund. People who try to admit another person to our facilities illegally shall be expelled from the premises and will lose their membership privileges without refund. 

Anyone under the influence of alcohol or other substances will be denied access to the sports facilities.

Recreation and Varsity Sports looks to provide certain flexibility to its members. To this end, you can request the temporary suspension of your membership for a minimum of one month and only once over the duration of your membership. 

How to get a refund

Your registration is not confirmed until payment is received. We accept Visa, MasterCard, debit card, and cheques (made payable to the University of Ottawa). All returned cheques are subject to administrative charge. Programs may be cancelled due to insufficient registration. A full refund will be issued in these situations.

For all refunds, your original receipt is required.

Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable. Certification programs, locker rentals, group fitness cards and personal training services are non-refundable.

Outdoor activities are not refundable, unless you find someone to take over your reservation. In such case, a $10 or 10% administration fee (whichever is higher) will be deducted from the initial price.

Intramural: A refund may be issued for a withdrawal before the second game of play. After, refunds will only be issued due to illness or injury, in which case documented proof will be required (doctor's note). A 25% withdrawal fee will apply to any all refunds.

Other activities: if you are unable to participate in the activity, a $10 or 10% administration fee (whichever is higher) will be deducted from the initial price ONLY if you withdraw prior to the second meeting of the activity.

For all camps, a confirmation letter is required. A 10% administrative fee will be applied. Partial refunds for daily absences will not be provided.

All costs listed are subject to applicable taxes at the applicable rate. Recreation and Varsity Sports reserves the right to revise its pricing without notice.

If you are not familiar with the use of any piece of equipment, please ask the attendant on duty for safety guidelines.

The centres can become very busy. We suggest that you spread out your training sessions throughout the day. 

Out of courtesy, please wipe off the equipment after use.

For safety reasons, all members must secure weights with collars and may not wear sandals.

To prevent accidents, leave your bags in your locker, and put all pieces of equipment back in their respective areas.

The Manager of Instructional and Fitness / Wellness programs remains responsible for administering the fitness centres.

The Associate Supervisor, Client Services and Sports Facilities is authorized to take appropriate action in response to conduct that violates the standards, policies, or expectations of our sports facilities. This includes the authority to: 

• Suspend access to facilities temporarily, pending review or resolution of an incident.
• Cancel access or revoke membership privileges in cases of repeated misconduct or serious violations. 

These decisions are made in alignment with our commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all users. Actions may be taken based on direct observation, staff reports, or verified incidents. 

In cases where a former member or individual with a history of challenging behavior wishes to return, a meeting may be required with the management team to review expectations and determine eligibility for future access. 

This policy is intended to support the integrity of our facilities and ensure a positive experience for all participants.
