Andr茅 Picard is the health columnist at The Globe and Mail, where he has been a staff writer since 1987. He is also the author of six books, including 鈥淣eglected No More: The Urgent Need To Improve The Lives of Canada鈥檚 Elders鈥 and 鈥淭he Gift of Death: Confronting Canada鈥檚 Tainted Blood Tragedy.鈥
He has received much acclaim for his writing and dedication to improving health care, including the Michener Prize for Meritorious Public Service Journalism, the National Newspaper Award as Canada鈥檚 top newspaper columnist, and the Sandford Fleming Medal for Excellence in Science Communication.
Andr茅鈥檚 work has also been recognized by a number of health advocacy groups, including being named Canada鈥檚 first 鈥淧ublic Health Hero鈥 by the Canadian Public Health Association, and as a 鈥淐hampion of Mental Health鈥 by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health.
Andr茅 is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and has received honorary doctorates from seven universities, including the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto.
