Martine Rh茅aume

Biography

Martine Rh茅aume has held positions as a teacher and head of the French as a Second Language, Spanish, German, and Latin departments in four secondary schools in the Ottawa region. She has organized linguistic and cultural exchanges that have provided students with authentic language-learning experiences in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Japan. Additionally, she conducts research on linguistic risk-taking in relation to learners鈥 Language Mindset within the framework of international virtual linguistic and cultural exchanges with French-speaking interlocutors in Egypt, C么te d'Ivoire, Benin, and Colombia. These virtual exchanges aim to enhance linguistic competencies and cultural appreciation in authentic contexts.

Her research interests also focus on the integration and strategic use of technology in second language (L2) teaching and learning. Specifically, she is interested in L2 instruction in hybrid and bi-modal formats, combining in-person and remote learning. Furthermore, she has a strong interest in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) literacy. Her work explores the integration of AI into language pedagogy while aiming to strengthen both teachers鈥 and students鈥 AI-related competencies.

Martine Rh茅aume aspires for her research to contribute to the expansion of international virtual exchanges, thereby fostering not only second language (L2) acquisition but also a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. She is also committed to raising awareness and providing training for L2 teachers and students on the strategic, ethical, and effective use of technology鈥攑articularly artificial intelligence鈥攊n the field of language teaching and learning.
