Celebrating success | International students shine at the Centre for Language Learning

CLL students on a group outing
In July and August, 84 students took part in the 糵 English Experience program (UOEE) offered by the Centre for Language Learning (CLL).

Members of this cohort, from Japan, Taiwan, Italy, Mexico, Korea, Congo, Haiti, and beyond, improved their English language skills in the immersive and dynamic environment of the UOEE program.

Outside the classroom, they explored Ottawa and its surroundings through unforgettable outings—a visit to the Canadian Museum of Nature, a kayaking trip on Dow’s Lake, and a sunny day at Calypso Waterpark. These enriching experiences allowed students to explore the local community and culture while making the most of their stay in Canada alongside their peers.

Budding partnership with Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Madero

This summer, five students and one faculty member came from the Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Madero (ITCM) in Mexico to participate in the UOEE program.

On August 20, ITCM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office of the Vice-President, International and Francophonie, to establish a promising relationship. The agreement was widely reported in the Mexican media, emphasizing the international significance and value of this partnership.

Members of ITCM’s senior leadership attended the closing ceremony of the English Experience program on August 22. Their presence highlights the importance ITCM places on supporting and enriching its students’ language learning journeys.

Recognizing the quality of instruction their students received, ITCM representatives took the opportunity to meet with OLBI Director Elena Valenzuela and Evan Lavoie, Manager of the CLL, to explore future collaboration opportunities.

The English-language programs at the CLL help international students build confidence in their English skills, easily integrate into Canadian society, and form lasting friendships as they prepare for their future endeavours. Everything they need to succeed!

Congratulations to CLL’s newest graduating cohort!
